Viktor
My parents told me I skated before I walked. When I was eighteen I was drafted into the N.H.L third overall, playing in Los Angeles—the city of dreams. What more could I ask for? I played hard, but eventually, I partied even harder. Five years later I was traded a week after I entered rehab. There was no time for anything except my health and making sure I’d come out on top. I had to be better. There wasn’t another option.

One of the rules of recovery was
‘don’t fall in love’ and I made it a top priority. She was off limits in every
single way.

When you grow up surrounded by hockey players you know one thing for sure, I was never going to settle down with one. Heck, I didn’t even know what icing was. I was too busy climbing the corporate ladder, becoming one of the most successful realtors in New York City. I wasn’t interested in dating or anything that got in my way.

First, he was my client and then
he became my friend.
One night, one decision, one act
can derail everything.
When push comes to shove, I’m
only certain that, This is Wild.
I had a review already written and I completely deleted the
entire thing. Why you may ask? Well it is because the more I thought about This
Is Wild, the more that I took into consideration my personal emotions and
the reason behind them, that my review, while it was a good one, just didn’t
express what this book did to me. Viktor’s story hit close to home for me. I
have had people in my life who have fought their demons and addiction and won.
I have had people in my life that have fought their demons and addiction and
have lost. I currently have people in my life who are at that crossroad, that
they will face their demons and win and some who will ignore them and lose. So,
for me, This Is Wild was more emotional to me when we are reading about
Viktor and his struggle after leaving rehab because of those people in my life.
Addiction just doesn’t take over the addict’s life, it spreads to family
members, friends, and it takes a strong person to love an addict, recovering or
not, and Zoe had that strength even if she didn’t believe it at times.
My heart broke for Viktor more than once, the daily fight to
stay clean, to push away the temptation of using again when things got hard.
The best thing to happen to him besides getting clean was his trade to New
York. Zoe may at times come across as anti-love, but deep down under that hard-outer
shell, she really was the perfect match to Viktor, they both made each other
better in the best of ways. We get to see all of the Stone and Grant family,
and we see how they welcome Viktor not just to the team but to the family. I loved
all the banter between Matthew and Max, Evan and Viktor, Zoe and Zara, well you
get the picture, more than once I would bust out laughing because of something
they said to each other. In fact, I am wanting to go back and read the Something
So books as well as This Is Crazy just because I loved those books
so much and want to fall in love with them once more.
This Is Wild is a must read in this book whore’s
opinion, it is the perfect balance of emotional, funny, sexy, hockey and
family. Natasha Madison once again wrote an amazing book that needs to be at
the top of your TBR lists!
