He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.
He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.
I have to stop this. It can’t happen.
My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.
Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.
I am.
She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.
As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.
The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.
But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.
And her boyfriend’s father.
Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.
I am a huge fan of Penelope Douglas, this is not a secret so
when I saw she had Birthday Girl as a
surprise book, well this book whore couldn’t wait to get her hands on it. I
FREAKING LOVED IT! It is a bit forbidden, it is sexy, it has well balanced
angst, and the storyline was one that immediately drew me in.
Jordan and Pike had chemistry from the very first meeting
and they didn’t know who they would be to each other. They immediately clicked
but Jordan having a boyfriend snuffed any potential relationship out quickly.
Now who Pike is to Jordan’s boyfriend, well that is where things get interesting
and a little forbidden. Pike is Jordan’s boyfriend’s dad. Yes, you read that right
but don’t automatically think that worst case scenario here, trust me. Pike may
have allow Jordan and her boyfriend in when they lose the place they are living
in but they have to help out around the house. Pike quickly realizes that
Jordan not only is a huge help, but brings life into the house. Jordan and Pike
push and pull yet will they cross that line that has been drawn or will they
just allow their chemistry to fizzle away untouched? Well you will have to read
Birthday Girl for yourself to find
out.
I didn’t want to put this one down. I wanted to read Jordan
and Pike’s story and things like sleep weren’t going to hold me back. If you
are Penelope Douglas fans or new to her books then Birthday Girl is one you need to check out for sure. It is yet another
one of hers that will be read again and again. You will believe in wishes once
more after reading Birthday Girl, I
know I have.
She lives in Las Vegas with her husband and their daughter.
