As Tampa Bay's star center, Mark Carmelo's life was hockey, and after a
bitter and public break up, all he wanted to do was focus on the game.
Until he saw her.
The one that got away.
The one he thought he'd never see again.
For thirteen years, Stevie West drowned in her lackluster life.
Recently divorced from her “roommate” with passionless benefits, she was ready
to start over. On her own.
Until she ran into him.
The same man she'd met one year ago.
The temptation that had finally given her the courage to find herself
again.
When lightning strikes twice, there’s no way to deny the chemistry it
creates.
But with both of them still nursing old wounds, Mark and Stevie will
have to find a way around the other's defenses, a way to breakaway and score
the one thing they never expected… love.
If you read my reviews, which I really hope that you do, you
KNOW how much I LOVE hockey in real life and in my romances. I am always on the lookout for a new author
to try or series to start. I was excited
to start Breakaway after reading the synopsis,
I had a feeling it was going to be a book I really enjoyed, and for the most
part I did, but I did also have some issues with it.
Let’s get to the good stuff first shall we? There was a good
balance between hockey and the building up of the relationship between Mark and
Stevie. Sometimes it is unbalanced but in this case, I think it was the right
combination of both. I loved Mark; he is the perfect balance of sweet, sexy,
confident and a bit vulnerable. He never forgot about Stevie, who he met a year
before. Stevie was finding herself again
after being someone else for so long. At times, I wanted to shake her and tell
her to stop acting the way she was but it was only because I understood her
struggle. The chemistry between them in undeniably hot, I mean like fanning
myself hot.
Okay so I guess I need to mention what I had issues with in
the book. So at times it felt as if the
book dragged on and on. I can read a
book fairly quickly and I have read books longer in length than this one in a
quicker time. I think some things could
have been cut back on, I more than once almost set it down because it dragged. Don’t
get me wrong I enjoyed the building of their relationship but after a while I
wanted to yell enough is enough already.
Breakaway overall
was an enjoyable read that I think hockey romance fans will enjoy. I am curious
to see if the author plans to do books for some of Mark’s teammates. I would
love a book about a certain captain and Stevie’s best friend.
