Cheater’s Regret, an all-new sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller Rachel Van Dyken is available now on Amazon & Free in Kindle Unlimited!!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken returns with a smoking-hot story about the satisfaction of plotting revenge on your ex—until he turns your world upside down again.
Austin Rogers’s dreams of domestic bliss involved watching Netflix and eating hot dogs with the love of her life. But then he cheated on her. And dumped her—as if the whole thing was her fault. To maintain her pride and restore her sanity, she decides to get revenge. It feels immensely satisfying to plot her ex’s downfall—but so does kissing him.
Thatch Holloway, a plastic surgeon straight out of residency, knows he ruined the best thing that ever happened to him. But not all cheaters are created equal. He got himself into this messed-up situation—true—but he has his reasons for what happened, and he’d do it all again to protect Austin.
He’s not over her. And she’s not over him.
Austin wants closure, but since Thatch refuses to give it to her, she takes matters into her own hands. She needs to write a human-interest piece for her MBA, so she demands the full plastic-surgery experience. Sparks fly as they’re forced to work together. But Thatch isn’t afraid to play dirty in return. And he’s still hiding something—something that has the power to destroy not only Austin but their second chance at finding forever…
I think I have started this review ten times by now which makes this attempt number eleven. As a huge Rachel Van Dyken fan I am torn. On one hand I loved Cheater’s Regret but on the other I hated parts of it as well.
Once again let me get this out in the open it is not the so called cheating that I hated, cheating in books doesn’t bother me. What I had a huge problem with or maybe I should say who I had a huge problem with was Austin, and let’s add Avery in there as a secondary reason. Trust me I have been the woman scorned, the one who was cheated on and yes I thought of so called ingenious ways to get back them only to realize how immature, petty, and downright stupid it would make me look to do that. See where I am going with this? That was Austin. For someone who was about to get her MBA, wanted to prove how much of an adult she was, she acted like a 14 year old girl who just had her heart broken for the first time. Am I being harsh on Austin? Yes but it is because I really liked her in Cheater, so for her to become so whiney, petty, and annoying in Cheater’s Regret is why this is so hard for me to write this review.
Now to the so called cheater, Thatch. Does he kiss someone else? Yes. Does he break up with Austin? Yes. Is there more to the story? You are damn skippy there is. Now, do I agree with how Thatch handled the situation, and when you find it all out you will understand more, no I do not but I do believe he didn’t see another solution and did the one he thought would be best. I admit I loved Thatch, I am not even mad at what he did. You know he really cares for Austin, you can feel it in the depth of your heart.
Yes there are some fairly hilarious pranks that had me laughing out loud, but there is also angst, misconceptions, heartache, secrets, lies, sexy times, and love. Cheater’s Regret is named perfectly. The feelings that it draws out, that angst you feel as if it was your own, are just a few of the reason why I even though Austin was not a character I liked, I still ended up really liking this book and one that I do recommend.
