Gabriel "Gabe" Lewis retired from the NFL and returned home to Cherry Springs. He combined his passion for football with camping and is now the owner of a football camp for teens. His summers are dedicated to spending time with family and teaching his campers about the sport he loves.
Zoey Zahn is a quirky, introverted writer and self-proclaimed geek. When she's asked if she’ll accompany her nephew, Christopher, to camp, Zoey agrees, envisioning quiet evenings of writing in the great outdoors. After she stumbles upon Gabe, however, quiet evenings alone are the last thing on her mind.
The chemistry between Gabe and Zoey is undeniable, but as camp ends, a brewing storm causes their blooming relationship to fumble. All Gabe knows is that Zoey is Too Tempting to deny, and he's determined to overcome the obstacles between them to be the man she deserves.
Too Tempting is the first in an all-new small town romance series by Bethany Lopez. Follow the Lewis cousins of Cherry Springs, the kind of place where there are festivals for every occasion and everyone knows your business, as they learn about love and loss.
Too Tempting was my first book from Bethany Lopez and it is also the first book in her Lewis Cousins series. I like sports romance and the idea of a former NFL star having a camp for kids sounded fun to me so I thought I’d give it a shot. I also like series books-when done well-since it gives opportunities to follow up with characters that I like. I liked the book for the most part and it caught me enough to have me want to read book two.
There’s instant attraction between our main characters, Gabe and Zoey. Though both are celebrities in their own right, they don’t immediately disclose that to one another, wanting to just be seen for themselves rather than just their name. When they do disclose who they are it feels natural and it’s not forced as a plot point. The way these two came together was fun to me and I truly enjoyed watching them together at camp.
I thought the author did a good job with the secondary characters as well. Since this is a series focusing on a family we got to meet several people who will be featured in later books. They didn’t detract from our main couple but still managed to make their presence known.
I felt the pacing of this book was good at first. I was moving along at a nice clip until a twist got dropped into the story. I wasn’t sure there was enough time to cover this new path in the book, but I’m hoping we get a little more resolution or background to it in the second story. I also didn’t love the twist (others may!) but it definitely frustrated me.
Too Tempting is the first in this series by Bethany Lopez and I’m invested enough to want to read book two to see where the characters wind up. If you like sports romance and instant attraction, I would give this a shot.
