Signing with Brighthouse Records was supposed to be everything we ever wanted—our better life. Our chance at everything we never had but always wanted. All our dreams would finally come true and we were on top of the world. It was our chance at the happiness we never had in life. Our every desire was at our fingertips and the power of that feeling was all consuming. But then it took every dream we thought would come true and it slapped us in the face with the cold hard reality. Dreams were just that…something that floated on the cusp of untouchable, taunting you with every graze of your fingertips before slipping even further away. Happiness…that feeling is a joke. In the end it became painfully obvious that each of us would always have each other, but we would forever be alone.
It is no secret that I have been a Harper Sloan fan since the first time I read Axel and her Corps Security series. I am loving all of the spin off series just as much if not more than the original and I loved the original books big time. If you don’t know who Chance is, he is Cohen’s friend/roommate and we meet him Unexpected Fate and I know I wanted his story immediately. Although we had to wait, it was worth it.
Chance and Wren are both broken souls in their own way. Chance still has guilt over what happened to Dani when she was attacked and while he feels this instant connection with Wren, he won’t risk it. Wren has had some threats against her and the band hires Chance to protect her, but who is going to protect her heart from Chance? I loved how Chance was protective of her from the very first scene we have him in. He is an alpha male through and through and on top of that has no problems stirring the pot so to speak when it is needed. Wren is sassy, feisty and finds a strength that I don’t think she knew she had until Chance came into her life.
Jaded Hearts is funny, it is sexy, it has the suspense that we have come to know and love with Mrs. Sloan’s books as well as surprises that you didn’t see coming. I loved the interaction between Chance and Wren with the other band members and love how we get a glimpse into their personalities. I will be waiting for the next book to release impatiently because I have a feeling that the next one is going to be filled with more laughs and surprises as well. Add Jaded Hearts to your TBR lists; it is one that this book whore highly recommends.
