Trent Andrews, local legend and owner of the Second Circle tattoo studio, has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And in spite of her mysterious past and the difficult road ahead, he quickly realizes that Harper is funny, smart, and--under her ridiculously oversized clothing and SPF 100 sunscreen--totally hot. He's happy to take on the challenge of designing a meaningful and deadly full-back tattoo for her.
But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper's phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. Running was the only thing that saved her last time, but now that she's started to put down roots in Miami, she'll have to decide if she can finally fight back instead.
I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with The Strongest Steel. I am sure you are asking why, well I had a hard time getting into it at first. I don’t know why that is but it really took me some time to feel the connection not only between Harper and Trent, but for me to connect with Harper as well. Once I was able to though, I felt for her, her pain, her past and the struggles she faced. That being said at time I would also get frustrated with her because she wouldn’t fully open up to Trent nor would she understand him at times what he may have wanted. She would flip flop and that drove me crazy. I did understand why she was the way she was, who wouldn’t be, but at the same time after a while it got to be old.
I loved Trent from the beginning to the end. His character is one that I would want to meet if I needed scars to be covered, and I don’t mean it in a I want to sleep with him type of way, although he is pretty hot, what I mean is that someone who cares enough to not only make something that is painful or a negative reminder into something beautiful and took the time to learn exactly how to do just that instead of making something worse. Well that was a long sentence now wasn’t it? It may not make sense to you all until you read it but once you do I think it will.
The Strongest Steel is the first book in the Second Circle Tattoos series, and it was a really good start to the series. While I may not have loved Harper, I did feel for her and her past. Be prepared when you read The Strongest Steel, it at times is very emotional and heartbreaking but it is also funny, sexy and is making me want another tattoo, then again it doesn’t take much for me to want another.
