Nikki Case is no fan of baseball. Her ex gambled away a fortune on the sport, and now her PR firm has tasked her with cleaning up the league’s most notorious bad boys. The New Jersey Sonics are known for wild womanizing and booze-fueled brawls, so Nikki expects the worst. Her first stop in the battle to win hearts and minds is star hitter Jake Baldwin—a legendary ladies man so smokin’ he threatens to melt her tough-girl armor.
Although his teammates prank her without mercy, Jake admires the way Nikki gives as good as she gets. She may be the queen of frost, but there’s kindling beneath those sultry curves—and he’s just the man to ignite it. But when a PR nightmare lands the Sonics in headlines across the country, Nikki is ready to walk. Only then does Jake realize how important she is to the Sonics’ success—and that winning the love of a good woman is no game.
Too Hot To Handle is the second book in this series and I was hoping that this one would be even better than the previous book. Sadly it was about even and that was a little disappointing to me. Don’t get me wrong I liked this one, but when I am hoping for so much more especially from characters like Jake and Nikki and the potential is there for the book to be too hot to handle and the only thing we really get is a female character who I even wanted to bitch slap for the majority of the book because of how big of a bitch she was at times and a supposed man whore who was actually pretty tame if you ask me. Now yes I am being a tad bit harsh and I mean no disrespect to this author because if you look at my rating I do still give it 3.5 stars, but it had the potential to be so much more and it sort of fell flat.
Nikki was hired to change the public opinion of the Sonics. Now think Major League times ten and you kind of get the idea of what she was working with here. The thing is she went full out ball buster from the start and pissed off the entire team. I had an issue with her whole attitude for the majority of the book, but then she weaseled her way into my heart and I was on her side and felt so horrible for what she hears.
Jake is the playboy, the man whore, the one who no one thinks will ever settle down; and he doesn’t plan on it either but then he never planned on Nikki. He used to be all of things but he is also so much more than I thought he would ever be. Deep down Jake was an amazing guy, and with Nikki he ended up being ever better. Did he screw up? Yes he did, but he also felt deeply about the pain he caused and it not only affected his game but his happiness. I want to say he deserved it but at the same time I know he never meant to hurt Nikki.
Too Hot To Handle may not have been too hot to handle but it still was sweet, sort of predictable and a good addition to this series. While I may not have been wowed by it, I am still glad I read it to get Jake’s story.
