The conclusion to the New York Times bestselling romance that began in Phenomenal X, about one woman’s pulse-pounding relationship with a notorious bad-boy wrestler. “What’ll it be, Anna Cortez? Are you in, or are you out?” One momentary loss of control has now ruined everything Xavier Cold had going for himself. With his world unraveling fast, he’s willing to do anything to save not only his job but his relationship with the only woman he’s ever loved. Anna Cortez, still reeling from shock, tries desperately to save the man that’s consumed her heart, body and soul. She’ll have to dig deep and find courage she never knew she possessed to help Xavier fight demons from his past—a past that’s even more haunted than she ever imagined.
I was so excited that we were finally getting the final part of Xavier and Anna’s story, that the follow up Phenomenal X was finally finished. When Xavier Cold showed up on my kindle I was extremely excited. I loved Phenomenal X, I am a huge wrestling fan, I watch it every single week, I go to the live events, so when Ms. Valentine worked my love for wrestling, plus her character reminds me of one of my favorite wrestlers I was in book whore wrestling heaven. So after all that build up that I did, waiting years for the second book I had huge expectations, huge hopes for X and Anna. Did Xavier Cold meet those expectations and hopes for me? Sadly it did not.
While I enjoyed the book, it fell flat, was in a sense anticlimactic on more than one front and just wasn’t as good as the previous book. Oh if you are wondering this starts off right where we left off, X in jail for beating Rex. I wish we could have seen some form of closure when it came to Anna standing up for herself with Deena’s bullshit. Even the storyline with Rex sort of just fizzled out, and I was hoping for that epic sort of confrontation between X and Rex, hell I would have taken Anna doing something while Rex was in a match, anything. Does that sound harsh? Probably a little and I don’t mean to be but while I was left disappointed, I didn’t hate the book. I did like reading more about Xavier and Anna, I loved seeing how much Xavier loves Anna and wants to be a better man for her, I saw how Anna grew since the previous book. I do hope that we may see more for the other characters in the book, there are some secondary characters who really could have their own story even if not tied directly into this, then a standalone by chance.
